The Cie Gilles Jobin have been developing artistic and researchprojects exploring the relationship of new media technologies with the dance making process and aesthetics. More recently, it had developed projects instructional on the impact of the internet on the professional contemporary dance field and multimedia installations.
In 2009, the Cie Gilles Jobin created the WorldGridLab (WGL) in collaboration with Marlon Barrios Solano (dance and new media/researcher and creator of dance-tech.net) and presented it at the EXTRA-09 Festival in Annecy, France. Developing further on the same line of research, the company has been organizing the GVA Sessions since 2007 as knowledge exchange platforms for contemporary dance artist and interdisciplinary explorations.
These ongoing interest on creative and innovative uses of new technologies is instantiated on the development of other projects on the interaction of dance, real-time processing of moving bodies, image and digital networks.
The regional and international success and the hight demand of such projects such as the GVA Sessions, the WorldGridLab and the recently created MotionFrames motivated the company to formalize a research hub with the creation of the GVA DanceMedia Lab.
The GVA DanceMedia Lab mission is to continue supporting, advancing and transmitting the company’s core research on creative expression with an embodied and interdisciplinary perspective on contemporary dance and creative technologies.
GVA DanceMedia Lab gives special focus to :
-Mediated collaborative creativity and technologies for cultural exchange
-Dance and digital performance technologies.
-Experimental documentation and digital distribution of movement arts.
-Sustainable knowledge generation and distribution strategies for movement artists
-Innovative uses of new media platform for contemporary dance performances.
-Impact of the digital technologies on dance making, expression and distribution.
The GVA DanceMedia Lab is manifested as a dynamic network of topical workshops, lectures, seminars and online activities.
